Vertical

Monday, October 30th, 2006

I bought a vertical grip for my camera earlier this week, primarily in preparation for basketball season, but I thought I’d give it a try for soccer. Despite the misleading thumbnail below, I shot almost exclusively vertical today.

I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. I think if I had a longer lens, or the kids were bigger, vertical would be the way to go most of the time because then the kids would fill the frame. One good thing though — not only can I now have 2 batteries in the camera at once, but the grip comes with a battery magazine that takes AA batteries. So let’s say we’re at a tournament and I forget to pack my charger. No worries, now that I can use AA batteries as a backup!

Missing Ref

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

We didn’t have a referee for today’s game but the coaches decided to go ahead and have a scrimmage. I took advantage of the “friendly” and experimented with some settings but the experiment wasn’t too succesful. Lots of soft shots I think because my ISO was too low. There’s always something to learn!
