7!

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

Kate turned 7 this week, and had her birthday party on Saturday. Although she’d only been ice skating once at another girl’s party, she insisted that she wanted an ice skating party. She actually did fine even though it was only her second time on the ice. There were 10 girls at the party, plus a few siblings. There would have been more but lots of kids were out of town for the long weekend (teacher workdays) but I was quite happy to keep the party small.

Since I wasn’t about to set foot on the ice, I took most of the pictures through the glass. That’s apparent from the glare but given that, and the difficulty of getting the right exposure given the big whit expanse of ice, I think they turned out ok. Pictures from the party are below:

Flat

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

The team looked a bit flat today, and I was struggling too. I tried a different spot and had a really hard time shooting from there. It’s weird, but it’s a lot darker on one side of the court than the other even though the lighting appears to be identical. I also tried switching focus points to the top one in the vertical orientation and couldn’t quite get used to it. I’ll have to keep trying though because theoretically it should be easier to acquire focus on the face using the focus point (I think).

As for the game, both teams had a hard time putting the ball in the hoop. At half-time the score was something like 4-4 and the final ended up being 10-12!

Defense

Sunday, January 14th, 2007

Yesterday’s game was all about defense and teamwork and it showed in the 30-12 final score. The boys were impenetrable on defense, blocking shots, stealing balls, and cutting of passing lanes. On the flip side, they played amazing teamwork on offense, passing to each other unselfishly and executing picks and screens with precision. It was a beautiful game to watch!
