Playoffs

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

Tournament season started this weekend and luckily the boys got both games in before the gyms closed because of snow. The closures will wreak havoc on the rest of the schedule and this means a sticky situation as Ben may have to choose between basketball and soccer tournaments. We’ll worry about that when we come to it I guess.

The Spurs won the first game fairly easily, although it was tight through the first half, with the score tied at half-time. The boys pulled away though and came off with a 27-18 win. Pictures from that game are here:

The second game was a squeaker. Although the boys had a nice lead going into the fourth quarter, they went stone cold in shooting and barely held on to win 19-18. The game had its fair share of controversy, which I won’t get into here. I’ll only say that adults should consider what it says about their character when they boo at 10 year olds. Pictures from the second game are here.

Last Regular Season Game

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

A tight game, but the boys pulled it off at the end posting an 18-16 win. Smart shot selection in the final quarter and tight defense the whole game made the difference. And oh yeah, I guess I have to acknowledge Ted’s superior use of the timeouts. He’s always claimed that he could get a job in professional sports as the “Time Out Coach” with his vast knowledge of the proper time to deploy the timeout and its strategic use. He put it to good use yesterday, calling a timeout with 7 seconds left so that the boys could throw the ball in to the backcourt and run out the time (recall that there is no backcourt defense yet in 5th grade).

Super Bowl Sunday

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

As evidence of the Bears idolatry that has permeated our household, Kate’s first words to me this morning were, “Good morning, Mom. It’s Super Bowl Sunday!” What better way to give this event its proper due than to feature the posterior of two of the Bears’ most ardent fans?

Kates Party-05.jpg

The first picture was taken last week at Kate’s party, but the remainder of the pictures in the album are from Ted and Ben’s trip last year to Chicago to see the Bears play the Carolina Panthers. Sideline passes courtesy of good friends with connections, SY and his son HY. As a lifelong 49ers fan, I can’t quite bring myself to say GO BEARS!, but let the record reflect that those words do appear on this site.
