A Key Game

Monday, October 29th, 2007

The boys pulled off a victory in a key game this past weekend. More importantly, they did it while playing nice soccer. They held possession, passing with purpose and displaying patience on the attack. It’s a very nice style of soccer, not the kickball you often see at the younger ages. Still no luck with the lighting conditions for me though.

Last-Second Effort

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

The boys pulled out a squeaker on Sunday, getting the only goal in the game almost literally at the last second. Despite the fact that they held possession for almost the entire game, they couldn’t punch one in until the very end. The opponent was clearly playing not to lose, as they packed the box and always cleared to the side, preferring to give up possession in their end rather than try to build an attack from the back. The Titans must have had at least a dozen corner kicks. But finally, finallly, after the parents were left hoarse from cheering, #16 punched it in. The teams then lined up for the kick-off and the whistle blew. Nerve-wracking, but fun to watch!

A Nice Win

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Ben had an early morning game yesterday in which they finally posted more than one goal! With one notable exception the boys have been stingy on defense. Unfortunately, the opposition has been just as stingy in giving up goals to the Titans. But the team broke through this weekend, scoring 5 times while shutting out the other team. It was a nice win for the boys, boosting their confidence since the other team had been previously undefeated.

Not so nice were the shooting conditions. Half the field was in shadow, and the other half in bright sunlight. I couldn’t catch a break no matter where I positioned myself.
