A Good Game

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

The Titans played their second game on Sunday and looked really good.  They were passing the ball well and using the entire field effectively.  They knew when to switch the field and were really connecting on their passes.  Although the score was only 2-0, the other team barely got any touches on the ball and probably had no more than 3 or 4 consecutive passes.  I actually switched vantage points in the second half (when I try to get some shots of the defense) because there was absolutely nothing going on in the Titan’s defensive half of the field.

Photography-wise, the first half of the game was very nice to shoot.  High overhead clouds to act as a diffuser.  The second half was more difficult to shoot as the light was fading.  I eventually ended up bumping my ISO to 1600 to compensate for the lack of light and you can see the graininess that resulted.  Even with all that there is a significant amount of motion blur in the pictures.

The Girls Get a Win

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

This season holds more promise for the girls, as they posted their first win of the season in their second game.  They passed well, had good spacing, and generally played nice soccer.  Here’s hoping the trend continues!

Opening Day – U9 Girls

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Kate’s team had a bye the first weekend of play so her first game wasn’t until this past Saturday.  After a week of cold, blustery weather, and one cancelled training session, Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day.  Bright and sunny and nearly 80.  Too sunny for my taste, actually, making for harsh shadows and glare.  Plus they were playing on my least favorite field on which to shoot.  The way the sun hits the field is just weird and there doesn’t seem to be a good spot for lighting.
