Tournament Weekend

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

I’m still catching up from photographing 7 soccer games over Memorial Day weekend, since both kids had tournaments.  The schedules aligned and not only were the kids’ fields only 15 minutes apart, but there was only one conflict.  Not all was good, however, as my 20D seems to be failing.  No matter what settings I dialed in, the camera was severely overexposing.  As in nearly completely white.  Looks like time to make a trip to the repair center to see if it’s worth fixing.

In the meantime, I’ve finished Kate’s games and posted them here.  The girls had a good tournament, and were at the right level of play.  They came away with a 1 win, 1 loss, and 2 draws.  One of their ties was against the team that won the eventual championship so the girls felt pretty good about that.

A Squeaker

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

The girls pulled out a last minute win on Sunday, putting the ball in the goal in the last minutes of the game.  It was a very fun game to watch, since they played on our club’s nice new turf field.  It’s a full-size field that they shortened for the small-sided game, but they left the touchlines at their regular width.  As a consequence, the girls had lots of space and could actually have some time to consider their options before having a defender close down on them.  It was nice to see them execute passes and play proper soccer!  The light was good most of the game as well, with mostly overcast skies.  I don’t have a thumbnail, but pictures are available here.

Fun Run

Kate’s school sponsored a charity fun run today, and I got tapped to be one of the photographers.  Kate and Ted participated, choosing Kicks Against Breast Cancer as their charity of choice.  The run isn’t for a fixed length, but rather, a fixed length of time.  Kate ran 2.5 miles in the alloted time!  Ted ran alongside her, but Ben could not drag himself out of bed, having been at the movies until 10:30 on Friday.  We are very proud of Kate for choosing a charity and for running 2.5 miles!
