Futsal

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I’ve been testing out my new Flip camera by taking some videos at Ben’s futsal games but it’s been difficult. If I take them at floor level, the plexiglas is in the way and I can only take them from behind one of the goals. If I go up to the second floor, there’s netting and it’s too hard to take in the whole court. In any case, I’ve got some clips. The first is Ben having a pre-game strategy chat with his coach, only to be distracted by a ball that bounces his way:

This next one is Ben winning a 50-50 ball:

And then this last one is when the other team’s keeper pushes Ben around to try to protect his box. Ben just ignores him.

NOW It’s Over

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Finally finished up going over the pictures from Ben’s soccer tournament last week and I can now say that the outdoor season is officially over.  The boys played well, but fell just short of the championship, losing 1-0 in the finals.  It’s always a bit of a letdown to get all the way to the finals only to lose by one but at least they got there, right?  This is not to say, however, that we are done with soccer.  Kate’s already had 3 games of indoor and will continue through January.  And then Ben has futsal in January.  And don’t forget basketball starts this coming week!

On another note, look at the difference the light makes in the pictures.  Games 1 and 3 were taken in early morning (8:30 and 7:30, respectively).  Game 2 started at 3:30 and I had barely enough light to take pictures by the end.  If only it had started an hour earlier — I would have had the lovely golden light all game long!

Intense Game

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Last week’s game for the boys was just plain crazy, at least from a spectator standpoint.  I’ve been to literally hundreds of soccer games and I’ve seen coaches get ejected, and I’ve seen individual spectators get ejected.  But this was the first time that I’ve seen both the coach and an entire spectator sideline get ejected.  Not our side — the opposing team’s.  They had been riding the referee from the very beginning of the game for some unknown reason, and the ref finally had it by the middle of the second half.  Maybe it was because they were undefeated up to that point but were losing to our boys?  In any case, the Titans won the game 3-2 and played the part of spoiler.
